Triple C's released their studio album debut, Custom Cars & Cycles through Maybach Music Group/Def Jam on October 27th. The trio, who are also known as Carol City Cartel is made up of rappers: Gunplay, Torch, and Young Breed.
Rick Ross created the group in 2007 following his departure from Suave House Records. The objective of the group was simple: To make music that appealed to the streets and to attain the lifestyle that fame and success bring: the finest women, the best clothes, and the nicest custom cars and cycles. The release of this album is the realization of that goal, hence the title.
The group accomplishes their goal to make street music right from the intro song, Custom Cars & Clips, which includes the typical topics for any given song: Money, cars, clothes, jewels, etc. Tracks that stand out from the bunch are White Sand which features production from Phil 4 Real and Err Day featuring Young Jeezy. Both songs demand respect from your speakers, blast them accordingly. The best song on the album though is by far, Diamonds & Maybachs Pt. 2 featuring Suede Royale, if for no reasons other than The Tranzformerz production, Suede's master of the hook, and Ross' verse. Meant for the drop-top convertible on a sunny day the track will have you vibing along regardless of your location or vehicle.
The disappointments are surprisingly few. We Gettin' It has potential but is derailed by the hook, "...ball like we just won the super-bowl." Chickn Talkn featuring Mack 10 and Warren G feels like a collision of the West and the South as opposed to a mingling of the two different styles. Yams Pt. 2 featuring Yo Gotti isn't necessarily a complete lost, but Yam Pt. 1 with the Ross verse is better.
Overall, the album does an excellent job introducing Triple C's style: Southern Made-Gangsta Rap. Don't go dissecting the lyrics or looking for much substance, instead spend your time enjoying some of the best production your Chevy has had the pleasure of blasting so far this year.
