In a culture where sex, drugs, politics, violence and money dominate the music industry, T.R.U.B. brings the truth in an incredible sound based on what’s hot without conforming to unenthusiastic Hip-Hop trends. This Memphis, TN based rapper is not your average Hip Hop artist.
T.R.U.B. has already had the opportunity to perform and collaborate with industry heavyweights like Juicy J, Project Pat, Bruno Mars, Future, Gorilla Zoe, Plies, Project Pat and Yung Ralph.
His new project “Armageddon” is now available on LiveMixtapes.com and it encompasses a diversity of styles and influences of what the upcoming rapper has distilled over the years. With “Armageddon”, T.R.U.B. returns to the streets where his career once started and delivers a project with refreshing vitality
Hey T.R.U.B., thanks for taking the time to talk to us! You just dropped your mixtape “Armageddon”, which is buzzing like crazy with almost 100.000 views in 1 week! How does it feel?
It feels amazing! I’m very appreciative of the love that I’m receiving from fans all over the world. I’m very optimistic for the future success of “Armageddon”, but I know I have plenty of work ahead of me.
Why did you choose the title “Armageddon”?
I chose the title because I wanted to make an impact on Hip Hop, the same as if “Armageddon” would make an impact on the world. I wanted to make a statement to the world and “Armageddon” defines that statement in every aspect.
You have some dope features on there with Yung Ralph, Project Pat, Jacki-O, Gorilla Zoe and Juicy J. How did you link up with these heavyweights?
I linked up with these heavyweights while I was touring with the Dub Car Show in multiple cities, these are the artists I had the best chemistry with and the ones who meshed with “Armageddon” the best.
How was it working with Three 6 Mafia’s Juicy J?
It was an honor working with Juicy J. I’ve always been a fan of Juicy J while growing up. Of course, I’m from Memphis, and Three 6 Mafia is part of the Memphis lifestyle. The song was orchestrated by Kustom Beatz. He had Juicy J to do the hook, and I put my touch on it, and from there it was a hit.
What track gets the most attention from the Hip-Hop community and which one is your personal favorite?
I must say “Incredible” has been getting the most reactions from the hip hop community. I’m getting tons of love from the fans with this song. My personal favorite is “Make No Difference” ft. D- Black because it was a personal challenge with the different style and flare and once it was completed, I was impressed with the work and the finished project.
It’s for sure that this mixtape will open a lot of doors for you. Do you plan doing any shows for it?
Yes, I’m getting a lot of offers for shows. We are in the talks for an overseas tour for 2016. I also will be performing at the South by South-West.
For the people who are not familiar with you yet. What does your name T.R.U.B. stand for?
Truth, Real, Unique, Blessed. The name defines how I live my life.
What is your current label status? Do you prefer staying indie or would you like to work with a major label?
As of now I’m independent. I would love to work with a major label, depending on the fit and the freedom I would have as an artist.
It’s difficult to come up as an artist these days, what is your formula for success?
Knowing what the people want and staying true to my ideas. Also staying new and fresh, keeping God first and family.
What is your opinion about the music industry? What would you change if you could?
My opinion of the industry changes everyday that I’m in it. There are many ups and downs in this industry but I always refer back to my favorite artists that inspire me, and that’s what keeps me going. Ultimately my love for music will keep me in the game. I would want to change the difficulty it is for independent artists to get national exposure. There are many artists that have the talent and have the drive to become legends. I just believe the platform should be bigger for new artists especially with labels.
How would you describe your sound and style?
Universal. I’m not limited to a specific genre of sound.
Is there something else you are currently working on?
The work is never ending. I’m currently working on 3 projects. I’m working on a new mixtape, my EP and a collaboration project with Yung Ralph, produced by Marcus Brandon and Zaytoven.
Anything else you would like to talk about?
I gotta give thanks to all the fans for showing me love. I really appreciate it. And I want to thank my family and my team for supporting me on this journey. I want to send a huge thank you to my producer Marcus Brandon for the hard work and dedication he has put in for this project. Marcus and I worked on this project for a long time and the dedication he gave towards the production is extraordinary. I also want to thank super producer T-Lace for his great work and super producer Kustom Beatz and also all the other producers for their contribution towards the project. And I want to thank Yo! Raps for taking this the time out to interview me.
