It’s a known fact that the lion is the undisputed King of the Jungle. What better way for 3 kings to coexist than side by side in a highly respected society. From the ashes and ruble of Detroit comes a new untapped sound of three men: Jake Diamondz, Big S.C.A.M, and Phenom; the collective known as Black Lion Society (BLS).
These three emcees consistently embody and deliver a fierce, dominating sound with the upcoming national release of their latest single “Party In The Hills” (Prod. by Mike London). BLS provides a much needed fusion between the midwestern hip-hop vibe and the “Young California” sound that is capturing the airwaves. From delivery and word play to concepts and style the singles prove that BLS is one of the best rap groups to surface from the Midwest this year.
In the beginning, let our readers know who you are and which city you rep?
We are the Black Lion Society and we rep Detroit City aka the “D”.
So, you are from Detroit, how would you describe the Hip-Hop scene there at the moment?
It’s a in a great place right now. Tee Grizzley and Neisha Neshae both just signed with a major and it seems like the industry has their eye on more up and coming artist from the city.
How did you guys get the name Black Lion Society?
We were trying to come up with a name that described a strong group of leaders without being to political. We wanted to put something in place that we felt would start a solid movement. Hence comes the name Black Lion Society.
What was the moment that you knew music was your dream?
We all come from different music backgrounds. Individually at a young age we all inspired to become lifelong musicians.
Last year, you won the Detroit Underground Hip-Hop Award for “Best Group”. How was that?
We won the award in 2016 and to be honest it felt great to get recognition from the city given that there is so much talent here.
What is the Black Lion Society currently working on as we speak?
We’re currently working on an EP as well as pushing our single “Party In The Hills”, produced by Mike London. Also, the itinerary is being but together for a fall tour.
Any exciting news that you can share?
Without any major promotion, the single “Party In The Hills” organically gained 13.000 streams over all platforms. In addition to that the official video for the record is also growing.
How would you describe your sound and style for the people that don’t know you yet?
We’re the life of the party guys, I would say the new era of Digital Underground mixed with a hint of G-Unit.
What does each member bring to the table?
Jake Diamondz is the energy and foundation of the sound, Big Scam is the witty veteran with the vision and concept to the soundtrack, and Phenom brings the melody, harmony, and edge to the group. Together we are the voices of the underdogs, have-nots, and outcasts.
Where do you get your influences from when creating music?
We create from the ambiance in the studio when we record. Most of the time when we hear the track within mins we know what direction to go in with hooks, bridges, melodies, cadence, etc.
What is your current label situation looking like?
We’re currently signed to an upstart label located on the west coast.
Anything else you would like to talk about?
We have more music and videos to come. We’ve also been nominated for another award for best single “Party In The Hills” with SDM Live. The Black Lion Society documentary and webisodes are in the works as well.connect
