Weezy has finally given his reasons for the controversial decision.
Minaj’s last minute pull-out from the festival sparked a stream of comment and speculation from the hip-hop community. Lil Wayne tweeted shortly beforehand that his Young Money artist would not be performing, following some comments on the part of radio personality, Peter Rosenberg, who described Minaj’s song, Starships, as “bullshit.” Minaj felt disrespected by the comment and refused to perform.
Now, Young Money boss, Lil Wayne, has given his take on events, and revealed why he decided that Nicki should not appear at the Summer Jam. Weezy opened up on the subject to MTV News and claimed that his decision was a remark of respect to Minaj, honouring her feelings as an artist.
"First of all, I approached the situation like this: that's a female, first and foremost," he said. "Nicki Minaj is a female. I don't know what anyone else believe, but I believe that females deserve the ultimate respect at all times no matter what, where, when or how. So as soon as she called me and said she felt disrespected, I just declined everything and pulled her from the show because first of all, no person that works with me - because no one works for me - no person that works with me will be disrespected in my presence as long as I'm on this planet."
