Jay-Z Responds To MC Hammer's Diss Track

Jay-Z MC Hammer recently released a video called Better Run Run, in reaction to Jay-Z’s mention of him on the track So Appalled. On Wednesday (November 3), Jay-Z responded to MC Hammer’s music video in an interview with BBC Radio 1’s DJ Semtex.

The Hip-Hop mogul was asked if MC Hammer took So Appalled the wrong way. Jay states in the interview, “I didn’t know that wasn’t on the table for discussion.” The Decoded author discusses how he was not a forerunner in bringing up MC Hammer’s past financial issues. “I didn’t think I was the first person to say that.”

Jay-Z goes further on how his words are usually misconstrued and taken out of the context of “rap”. He reveals, “It is what it is. He took it the wrong way…I didn’t know I said anything wrong”.

He continued on, explaining, “I think when I say things, people believe me so much that they take it a different way  It’s not rap anymore at that point. Now, it’s a personal attack.”

Hammer released a video for his diss track on November 1 after taunting Jay for about a month and referring to the New York rapper as “hellboy.” In the clip a devilish creature can be seen chasing a Jay-Z look alike through the woods. Hammer intercedes and stops the creature in its tracks and then in the last scene reasons with his nemesis, baptizing him in a lake.

Furthermore, the Roc Nation boss also chats with DJ Semtex  about how he mentions MC Hammer in his book, Decoded, and shows the entertainer in a positive light. Hov states, “He’s going to be embarrassed. I said some really great things about him in the book and about people’s perception of him, and how he’s from East Oakland.”

Jay-Z’s book Decoded will be available for purchase on November 16.
