Last August, ATL rapper DJ Unk was rushed to the hospital after experiencing pains in his chest and was having trouble breathing. The doctors later concluded that he was suffering from a minor heart attack which soon became an eye opener for the rapper.

"One morning I woke up and I was like, I felt a little pain on the left side of my heart, it felt like a pulled muscle because I've been trying to get back in shape. I didn't know whether to call the ambulance or just try to shake it off. I'm glad I went to the hospital because the doctor said if I would have laid down and went to sleep, who knows if I would've got up and that would've been a sad thing."

Soon after Unk vowed that he would take more control of his health and has now began being more physically active and has slowed down on his bad habits such as drinking and smoking and replaced it with healthy snacks.

"I removed all the negative stuff. I'm blessed to be as booked for concerts and hosting and everything. I enjoy myself but I've calmed down on the drinking, on the beer, the smoking. I substituted that with fruits, base foods like good salmon, just healthy things. Whenever I go out, I still enjoy myself like before. I have a drink or two before I hit the stage. I just don't go ham like I did before; everything was so fast. Instead of praying once like before, I go twice a day."
