Despite stating that he is not a ‘teen choice’ on his latest album, it seems The Weeknd has once again been nominated for a Kids’ Choice Award.
During ‘Reminder’, the 4th track of The Weeknd’s ‘Starboy’ album that was released in November 2016, the Canadian singer says:
“I just won a new award for a kids show,
Talking ’bout a face numbing off a bag of blow,
I’m like, goddamn b*tch I am not a Teen Choice,
Goddamn, b*tch, I am not a bleach boy”
Abel was referring to the face that his song ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ was nominated for a Kids’ Choice Award in 2016, as many young fans and parents did not realize the song was a reference to his frequent use of cocaine.
It seems that the Kids’ Choice Awards committee was not bothered by these lyrics though, as The Weeknd has been nominated in the ‘Favorite Male Singer’ category, alongside fellow Canadian artist Drake and the likes of more kid-friendly singers Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars.
The Weeknd has since posted the news to his Instagram, along with the laughing face emoji:
