Chaka Zulu

Chaka Zulu, CEO of Ludacris' Disturbing Tha Peace label, spoke to a room full of students at Yale University on Thursday (September 24).

Chaka talked to students about the long, hard road he traveled in order to get to where he is today. Although working within the music industry can be stressful, Chaka said that he is "blessed to have great relationships and to have maintained a level of humility and peace."

He also recognized how lucky he has been throughout his career. After reflecting upon his career, Chaka said: "If you're lucky enough to be associated with a hot artist - just associated with em - not to mention if you discovered them, developed them, and branded them...you're considered a genius...and we've done that with our brand."

12:30am, September 24

Chaka hangs out with Ludacris, DMX, and Scarface outside of Tribeca Grand Hotel as he waits for his car to take him to the Pink Elephant Nightclub in NYC for the VH1 Hip Hop Honor's after party. A passerby asks to take a photo of them.

1:00am, September 24

Chaka shows up at the club just minutes before Mariah Carey arrives. He organizes his entourage at the door, which includes DTP artists, Ludacris and Tity Boi from Playaz Circle. I hang onto Ludacris' jacket to ensure that I won't be left behind the security ropes - outside the club door. Once we get inside, Chaka organizes his table in the VIP section of the club after handing the hostess his black card.

4:00am, September 24

Chaka heads back to his hotel for a good night's rest.

12:30pm, September 24

Chaka chats with Flavor Flav from Public Enemy and the reality show Flavor Of Love in the bar of the Tribeca Grand Hotel.

1:00pm, September 24

Chaka is driven to the Yale University campus in a black Cadillac Escalade. Chaka chats with me and his photographer the entire drive to New Haven. He intermittently snacks on popcorn and makes business calls.

2:45pm, September 24

A Yale Law School student gives Chaka and his photographer a tour around Yale campus. He stares in wonderment at the huge towers of the Sterling Memorial Library which house approximately 4 million volumes. Each part of the tour is yet another photo opportunity for him.

4:10pm, September 24

Chaka steps into a full house of students, who are all eagerly awaiting his arrival. We are ten minutes late, and according to a student worker, Chaka's Masters Tea has an even bigger turnout than Meryl Streep's did a couple of years ago.

5:15pm, September 24

After Chaka's speech, a passerby from the streets - not a Yale student - approaches Chaka and raps for him with the sincere hope of being discovered. Chaka politely listens to the boy rap for approximately three minutes, even though the rapper is certainly not the next Ludacris. He kindly provides the young man with some advice in terms of creating opportunities for himself within the music industry.

6:00pm, September 24

Chaka has dinner with Professor Steven Smith, a notable Political Science Professor, and a group of Yale students at Bentara - a Malaysian Restaurant.

7:45pm, September 24

Chaka goes shopping at a Yale souvenir store. He calls his son to see if he wants a sweatshirt, sweatpants, or a cap. His son requests a sweatshirt. After Chaka is done loading his arms with Yale apparel, he checks out at the register. Chaka was proud to be at Yale and his large total at the cash register showed it.

8:15pm, September 24

Chaka heads back to New York City for appetizers with friends and music industry meetings.
