DTP's "Duffle Bag Boys" talk it up with Yo! Raps about their new album and what they bring to the Rap game in the South.
It's no secret that the state of Georgia serves as housing for some of the biggest names in the hip-hop community. Superstars like T.I., Jermaine Dupri, Outkast, and Ludacris have worked with fellow artists to bring a higher level of respect to talent coming out of the southern state. Yes, the amount of emcees populating the "Home of the Peach" may be more than your ten fingers and toes can handle, but the music industry is one that is forever growing and welcoming of work ethic and persistence - a little talent wouldn't hurt either.
Tity Boi and Dolla Boy, members of DTP's Playaz Circle, aim to prove that there is always room for more. Coming straight out of College Park [GA], this fearless team of two has already burst onto the music scene with a swagger undying and a drive unmatched. Releasing their debut album Supply & Demand in 2007, Playaz Circle found much success with hit singles such as Betta Knock and Duffle Bag Boy featuring Lil Wayne. Although these hits turned a huge turnout almost two years ago, T Boi and Dolla have let it be known that they will not rest on the exposure of their last LP.
So what is in store for College Park's dynamic duo? Yo! Raps took a moment to catch the group while they were in the studio to discuss the beginnings of Playaz Circle, the new album, and what they bring to Luda's Disturbing Tha Peace roster.
Well, Yo! Raps is honored to have you guys take a moment to catch up with us.
Oh fa' sho man.
I understand that there is a meaning behind the name. What is the true meaning behind Playaz Circle?
It's Preparing Legal Assets For Years From A-Z. And the Circle basically means we coming as an all-around type group. 360 degrees - all around. We came up with the name for our whole movement you know? We just try to live it through the game of life.
The group claims Atlanta, Georgia as home right?
Dolla Boy: Yea Man ATL! College Park!! Southside! [Laughs]
How did you guys meet and when did you all decide to form your group?
Dolla Boy: Tit in and out the booth doing his runs [chuckles]. But I mean, I known Tit since high school man, we [Playaz Circle] actually started as a group of emcees. It was like nine of us - a mix of emcees and producers. So once I had gone to do some time, it was like the whole thing kinda broke off. But when I got back, me and Tit had a chance to get back in it. So yea...we were blessed with an opportunity.
Did you feel pressure to hit the industry hard, especially knowing the tradition of Georgia rappers (T.I., Ludacris, and Outkast etc.)?
Tity Boi: I mean not really. We kinda look at it as everyone has their own thing going in the game. Everyone coming from the area pretty much in they own category, like they got they own style, you know?
Dolla Boy: That's the whole thing about the South it's like you got a big gumbo pot. You got a great combo of things in there. You got the shrimp, you got the crabs [laughs]; so we think we got a lot to offer being as we coming as group. Me and Tit try to continue to be individuals while hitting the group aspect. It works out good for the fans this way because it's like y'all really getting two for the price of one.
From my understanding, the first album, United We Stand, United We Fall, was released independently. What was it like having to form an entire album minus the support of a label or productions company?
Dolla Boy: Yea that was our first project we did as a group [independently] that we released in the Southside region to help - you know - get our name out. I mean a great part of that was done by our guys - shout out to Tory Cook - he was one of the main leaders of the movement at the time. He was also like, a real hot producer - you know - an up and coming producer in the industry. So he ended up doing most of the tracks and we had relationships with other rising producers so everything actually got done for close to nothing.
So the group really had the chance to make something without too much to concentrate on as far as funding the whole thing?
Yep.
So what about the following LP... the second album which served as the debut, Supply & Demand, had some success. Did you guys expect to have as much circulation, especially on the single Duffle Bag Boy?
Tity Boi: Man we just really worked hard. We wanted to bring something new to the game in a real group. Duffle Bag Boy turned out real well. It was big all over but really got down in the south. Wayne did his thing on the track and we knew it was gonna be a banger.
Dolla Boy: People really took Duffle Bag in you know? Like, it really blew up as one of the hottest tracks when it came out. So we were satisfied with it when the whole project let out because we worked hard on the whole album the same we did with the first hit.
Playaz Circle is a part of Ludacris' Disturbing Tha Peace. What does this group bring to the table?
It's the streets man. We are the streets - a whole movement. The Duffle Bag Boy movement is crazy so, you know...Duffle Bag still going hard which is great so. And being a part of DTP is nothing like new because we been down with the family. We were with everyone before the fame; before there was even a DTP so it was only a matter of time. We a family so we all got something strong to bring to keep this team strong.
Ok it has been said that your new album, Flight 360: The Takeoff is to be released on September 29. Is there a meaning behind the title?
Yea Flight 360: The Takeoff, it speaks for itself man - we really taking off. Full circle man we working hard to give the fans something to think about, you know...We want the fans to really feel what we have coming to them.

What can fans expect from the new album? Can you tell Yo! Raps who you have producing the LP?
Aw man we got some new work for y'all for real. Great features too. We got Wayne, Ludacris, Cee-Lo, Raekwon. It's just gonna be crazy. The production team working hard so y'all gotta stay tuned [chuckles]. It's just crazy. We really trying to bring something different - truth be told the fans gonna know it's the best album coming out this year!
So Playaz Circle is confident in this album pleasing the masses?
Pretty much. When you really, really get down to it.
Alright, Yo! Raps readers want to know...
Ok. What's up?
Playaz Circle could collabo with one musical legend, who is it?
Prince because he's an icon plain and simple.
Best hip hop album of all time...
Run DMC and their hits.
Playaz Circle, a duo to be reckoned within hip hop. Fact or fiction?
Fact!
Thanks again for getting up with Yo! Raps Magazine. We look forward to the release of the album.
