Rocafella throne-holder Jay-Z has shown us all why he is the top man in Hip-Hop. In an industry known to bury talent as fast as it's discovered, the man simply called Hova has remained true to his game while others struggle to adapt to an ever-changing arena. Even more notable to add, Jay-Z has come to own the title of fashion mogul - while being involved in music over 15 years, Mr. Carter's Rocawear line has reached its own milestone. 2009 marks a decade the line has been in production. When most reach such an accolade celebration is in order - Jay shows his true colors as a businessman with new apparel and a commercial ad to back it.
In the process of shooting with director Spike Lee in Brooklyn, Jay-Z took a moment to describe the concept of the commercial with the media. "We're shooting the commercial. The commercial is about Rocawear, what we mean to the culture. The aspiration to maintain and be around for 10 years."
He further explains the idea as if it were a fantasy: "So this guy, he's in advertisement, and he's in Rocawear, and he goes through the day as if he's Jay-Z. He looks out the window, in his mind - because he's aspiring to make his own Rocawear - there's a group of people outside and they're waving to him. As he walks away, realty sets in. Someone looks out the window, and no one's out there. He gets on the elevator, and he's thinking people are asking him for autographs; no one's there. He's on his way to building his empire, but he has Rocawear on, and that's a start. So he feels as if he's successful already."
Jay and Spike Lee finished shooting and surprised fans as they left the clock tower where filming took place. The fans took pictures of the two iconic men, wanting to capture this special day.
Jay had nothing but words of praise to describe working with the legendary filmmaker. "Spike Lee is one of the most important directors of our time," he said. "To work with him on a commercial, I think we stole one. That's how I feel. We're more than honored. That's Spike Lee."
Jay-Z is set to release The Blueprint 3 on September 11th,2009. Blueprint 3 serves as his third installment of the title, making it the 12th album he has released since Reasonable Doubt in 1996.
